The Story

Narai Healing Sanctuary was born from a friendship between two people who saw the same problem from different sides of the world.

Adison Umarong grew up on Koh Samui — four generations rooted in the island's soil. He watched the wellness tourism industry grow around him, often disconnected from the local culture and the actual needs of the people it claimed to serve.

Justin Colwell, LCSW spent years in clinical practice working with trauma, grief, and transitions. He saw clients return from retreats feeling “opened up” but with no therapeutic framework to process or integrate what they experienced.

They met through a mutual friend during one of Justin's visits to Thailand and shared a vision: a retreat that combined Thai warmth and cultural authenticity with clinical rigor. A place where the facilitators weren't contractors — they were the founders. Where the therapist wasn't an afterthought — they were the co-creator of every day's program.

Narai Healing Sanctuary is the result. Ten private villas on the quiet western shore of Koh Samui. A maximum of 15 guests. A licensed clinical therapist leading every Guided Transformation Session. And a 4th-generation native ensuring that every aspect of your experience is rooted in real Thai hospitality — not a performance of it.

Why "Narai"

Narai (นารายณ์) is the Thai name for Vishnu — the Hindu god of preservation and protection.

King Narai the Great ruled Siam during its golden age. He was a diplomat, a scholar, and a protector of his people. His name carries a promise: you are safe here.

We chose this name because protection is the foundation of healing. You cannot go deep if you don't feel held. You cannot be vulnerable if you don't feel safe. The name Narai is our promise to every guest: under divine protection, you heal.

What Makes Narai Different

Privacy as a Healing Tool

Every guest stays in their own private villa with a kitchen, living room, and private bathroom. No shared rooms. No forced interaction. After ceremony, you can process alone — that's by design, not by accident.

Maximum 15 Guests

Maximum 15 guests. A 2:1 guest-to-staff ratio. Your name is known. Your story is heard. The Guided Transformation Sessions are calibrated to the group in the room — not read from a script.

Clinical Seriousness with Thai Warmth

A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) leads every therapeutic session. But outside of sessions, it's organic Thai food, jungle sounds, ocean breezes, and genuine hospitality. The framework is clinical. The feeling is home.

Cultural Authenticity, Not a Performance

Adison is a 4th-generation Koh Samui native — not a consultant flown in for the week. The Thai cooking classes, temple visits, and cultural programming aren't tourist experiences. They're invitations into a living culture, guided by someone who grew up in it.
